The same chrome part for indoor use and for outdoor use are two different jobs. Indoor decorative parts are about looking good; outdoor, bathroom, and coastal high-salt environments are about surviving corrosion. Specify the actual environment, base material, part geometry and acceptance criteria; appearance alone does not establish corrosion performance. So here is how high-corrosion parts should actually be plated.
It comes down to one thing: heavy, well-made nickel
As we have said before, the nickel is the corrosion workhorse on decorative parts. For outdoor parts, the first move is to increase the nickel thickness. A standard nickel thickness may be fine indoors; outdoors it has to go up.
Step up: duplex nickel
Duplex nickel is one coating approach for technical evaluation, typically involving semi-bright and bright nickel. This section and the table below describe selection considerations, not confirmation that Guoshuo provides every system listed. In-house suitability and performance must be reviewed against the production process, samples and inspection requirements.
Copper-nickel-chrome systems
Some parts get a copper strike before nickel to improve leveling and adhesion, forming a copper-nickel-chrome stack that balances appearance and corrosion. Whether to add copper depends on the part and the budget.
Pin the requirement down with a salt spray number
Saying "corrosion resistant" means nothing on its own; you need a hard figure. Put the salt spray duration in the spec, for example neutral salt spray, 72 hours, no red rust. Salt spray requirements are evaluated per project. Meeting an agreed duration and acceptance criterion depends on the actual sample, coating system and test results; this is not a blanket guarantee for every product. Then both sides have something to hold to, instead of arguing after delivery.
